Fiscal year 2025/26: EOS Group increases its investments in receivables portfolios in Eastern Europe.

  • EOS Consolidated records a slight increase in revenue in the Eastern European market
  • Investments rose by 16 percent following the acquisition of major receivables portfolios in Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania.
  • A pilot project using Agentic AI in Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia is already exhibiting promising results.

Carsten, in your view, what developments are shaping fiscal year 2025/26 in Eastern Europe?

Business across the entire region of Eastern Europe developed very positively over the past reporting year, driven by strong operational performance and substantial investments. With EUR 372.8 million and a 34.9 percent share of consolidated revenue, we were able to increase revenue in Eastern Europe by 1 percent. In my view, this success is primarily the result of the exceptionally close international collaboration between our employees. We can be proud of this team spirit.

Last year, the EOS Group invested EUR 361.6 million in receivables portfolios in Eastern Europe, an increase of 16 percent compared with the previous year. In your view, what were the key factors that brought about this success?

This development is indeed quite gratifying. We also succeeded in acquiring several large portfolios of non-performing loans (NPLs). One example is a portfolio in Bulgaria with a nominal value of around EUR 800 million, representing the largest NPL transaction in Bulgaria to date. Our company in Poland also had an exceptional year: In addition to a very strong operating result and record-high investments, we completed the largest acquisition of an unsecured NPL portfolio in the company’s history there.

These acquisitions were driven by our local teams, whose outstanding market expertise and commitment played a crucial role, with experts in Hamburg providing valuable support through sound data analysis and portfolio valuations. It is precisely this interplay of local market knowledge and consolidated analytical expertise that is a key factor for the success of our business operations.

In Romania, we also continued to expand our expertise in the area of performing loans. Managing active loans requires not only compliance with numerous regulatory requirements but also highly differentiated communication management in regard to borrowers. After successfully establishing these structures in 2024, we were able to take over another portfolio in the last fiscal year with a nominal value of EUR 28 million and more than 9,000 individual cases.

Consolidated revenue by region

In fiscal year 2025/26, EOS Consolidated succeeded in maintaining the high revenue level of the previous year. Overall, consolidated revenue increased by 1.4 percent to EUR 1.1 billion.

The Eastern Europe region was able to maintain the previous year’s high revenue level, generating revenue of EUR 372.8 million and accounting for 34.9 percent of total consolidated revenue, an increase of 1 percent compared with the previous year. High investments in receivables portfolios in Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania were key drivers of this positive development. In addition, the efficient operational management of both newly acquired NPL portfolios and those purchased in previous years made a significant contribution to sustaining the high revenue level. EOS also recorded revenue growth in several markets, including Croatia, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the past fiscal year, EOS also invested in bridge loans in seven countries across Eastern Europe. Can you give a concrete example and explain the role that this form of financing plays for EOS?

By offering short-term loans, also known as “bridge loans,” we help companies bridge temporary financing gaps so they can maintain business operations or secure strategic investments until long-term financing can be arranged.

One example is a financing project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where EOS provided the Sarajevska Pivara brewery with a loan of EUR 4.6 million. The financing helped bridge the period between a payment obligation arising from a value-added tax arrangement and the planned issuance of corporate bonds. After four months, the brewery was able to successfully complete the bond issue and repay the bridge loan.

Portrait of Carsten Tidow, Managing Director Eastern Europe at the EOS Group

Business across the entire Eastern Europe region trended in the right direction over the past reporting year, driven by strong operational performance and substantial investments. In my view, this success is mainly the result of the exceptionally close international collaboration between our employees.

In 2022, the EOS Group entered into a joint venture with the International Finance Corporation. How did this partnership develop over the last fiscal year?

I am particularly pleased that we were able to extend our cooperation with the IFC – a member of the World Bank Group – by another three years.

The joint venture, launched in 2022, aims to responsibly acquire NPL portfolios in order to improve companies’ liquidity and reduce consumers’ debts.

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria are systematically integrated into the entire investment process. The basis for this is a specially developed Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), which serves as a joint framework for portfolio valuation and enables the continuous review of social and environmental impacts. The target markets of the cooperation are Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Poland, Romania, and Serbia.

Which operational topics were particularly important last year?

One major focus across the Group was the further development of our operational platform through the use of Agentic AI. Effective, technology-based receivables management is increasingly becoming a key competitive advantage. Speed, accuracy, and scalability are increasingly important.

In Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, and Serbia, for example, we are already enhancing our receivables management through the use of Sofi-K, our proprietary generative AI assistant. Although Agentic AI is still in the pilot phase, it is already actively supporting our employees in routine case handling. Features such as email automation, call transcription, and analytical reporting have already been integrated, while additional applications, including voice AI, are currently being prepared.

What personally motivates you when it comes to this topic?

The real added value lies not simply in the design of new solutions, but in the business impact they can have on our day-to-day operations. We use AI wherever it can automate repetitive tasks, accelerate processes, and create more capacity for complex decision-making. What inspires me every day is seeing how we at EOS continuously improve and evolve our processes through entrepreneurial thought and innovative ideas – and how we actively shape this transformation as a team.

What does the International Finance Corporation do?

The IFC – a member of the World Bank Group – is the world’s largest development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. Operating in more than 100 countries, it uses its capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and expand opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2025, the IFC provided a record 71.7 billion US dollars in financing to private companies and financial institutions in emerging economies. By leveraging private-sector solutions and mobilizing private capital, the IFC aims to help create a world free of poverty on a livable planet. For more information, visit www.ifc.org.
